For the last 10 years the Sachem Ice Hockey Club has had multiple players assist the Long Island Blues. The Blues are a Hockey Club for the special needs ice hockey players. If any players are interested in assisting the Blues on the ice, please contact Randi Weinberg, at
The Blues practice at the Bethpage Ice Rink on the following Sunday's; 10/28, 11/4, 11/18, 12/2 & 12/16. You must be 12 years old or older to volunteer. All volunteers must register with the American Special Hockey (ASHA), even if you registered with the ASHA in previous years. All volunteers must be registered on the ASHA website before coming down to volunteer. The website is www.americanspecialhockey.org.
You must bring proof that you registered with the ASHA, such as a confirming email. Volunteer attendance is taken at each session and they can sign community service forms. Lastly once you registered and would like to come down to volunteer, please email Randy Weinberg 2-3 days prior to the practice date, she will confirm your attendance via email. If you have to cancel, please email Randy as well. Do not show up without a confirming email. All volunteers will be required to wear skates, helmet, glove and a stick.
This is a wonderful way to give back to the sport that most of our players love. The players who have given their time in the past have found it to be a most rewarding experience. I believe the Volunteers learn more from the players than the players do from the Volunteers.
Thank you!
