By-Law Proposal #1

Donna Corcione

Article XVI-By-Laws new proposal

Current rule: none

Proposal rule: A new rule to establish the by-law voting for proposal and amendments to take place on a bi-yearly vote.

Rationale: Due to the fact the proposal and amendments can be added to change the dynamics/rules of the club and or organization, this will help in keeping the balance of the thought process instead of making a rash or in haste proposal or amendment without thinking it through. Some proposal can be detrimental to the club or board member. Consideration for voting on by-law proposals or amendments can be on when two year terms on board members may expire.

Long Island Blues Hockey

Long Island Blues Hockey is a great way for any player to earn communtiy service and enjoy a self rewarding experience.  The LI Blues is always looking for volunteers.  Please see instructions below on signing up for volunteering.  I encourage everyone to sign up.

1.    You must be at least 12 years old to volunteer.

2.    All volunteers MUST register with American Special Hockey (ASHA).  This is true even though you may have registered with ASHA in previous years or earlier this year.  This is also true if you are registered with another hockey organization.  All Long Island Blues players, senior coaches, junior coaches/mentors, and volunteers should register on the ASHA Website as soon as you can.  ASHA will be insuring its members directly this season; there is no ASHA requirement to register with USA Hockey.  For senior coaches or junior coaches/mentors who also coach or play in separate hockey organizations outside ASHA, you may wish to register with the organization that is outside ASHA.  The ASHA registration is necessary to obtain ASHA liability insurance and optional accidental medical insurance.  Go to the ASHA Website (www.americanspecialhockey.org) and login using your password.  If you do not remember your password, request a new password.  If you have never registered with ASHA on its Website, register according to the ASHA Registration video on the ASHA Website Home Page. You must first register as a website user, and then register as a player, senior coach, junior coach/mentor or volunteer. You will be notified of successful registrations via email.  Part of the registration process includes a review, acceptance and "signing" of the ASHA Waiver of Liability and ASHA Consent to Treat Forms.  This online registration is the only way to register for ASHA play/coaching.  There is no paper form/process for ASHA registration and there is no fee to register with ASHA.  ASHA registration must be complete prior to any player or coach or volunteer being allowed on the ice for LI Blues practices or games.

3.   You must bring proof of ASHA membership to your first attendance as a volunteer.  Proof can be in the form of a confirming email.

4.   Volunteer attendance is taken at each session and we can sign community service forms.

5.   Our practices are listed on the schedule on our website www.longislandblues.org. Practices are Sundays at 11:00 am at the Bethpage ice rink.  If you wish to volunteer, please email me 2 or 3 days prior to the practice date at  .  I will confirm your attendance by return email.  If you need to cancel please let me know so that I can give your slot to another volunteer.

Please do not just show up without a confirming email from me.

6.  All volunteers will be required to wear skates, a helmet & gloves and to bring a stick.

Our first practice is October 1, 2017 @ 11:00 am and I look forward to seeing you there.
